Individual Counseling

How I counsel

Understanding the counseling process

Despite the increase in acceptance around mental health services, there are still a lot people who don’t know about the counseling process. Helping clients understand the nature of therapy, the importance of a strong counselor/client alliance, and determining a readiness to engage helps promote life change and lasting impact.

Working sessions

Effective therapy requires a holistic approach. It’s important for clients to build insight, or self-knowledge, AND to acquire tools and skills on how to work through life’s challenging moments. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and human-centered approaches in order to help you develop your identity, and learn to cope through anxiety, depression, relational conflict, and life transitions.

Maintain/Terminate

For many, including myself, therapy is a regular part of a self-care routine. After working through the initial goals for starting therapy, we will collaborate on whether continual therapy is right for your wellness journey or if therapy runs its full course, we will discuss how ending the therapeutic relationship looks like.

My specializations

Life transitions

Life transitions can create a lot of uncertainty and instability. Often, it’s the season of our lives that prompt the most fear and mental health concerns. Whether it’s ending college, switching careers, ending a relationship, or moving, I am passionate about leveraging seasons of transition to empower and inform your true self.

Anxiety/Depression Coping and Management

Anxiety and depression can be crippling. After experience with working in an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and struggling with anxiety myself, I’ve learned how to start small when anxiety or depression are severe. I help clients build structure, identify symptoms, self-soothe, and build coping skills to help emerge from severe episodes with empowerment. For those with less severe experiences, I help you understand how to manage and live with anxious/depressive tendencies and engage in self-care practices to become strong against thinking errors and unhealthy behaviors associated with anxiety and depression.

Healing Trauma

The research on Trauma is clear. Everyone experiences some form of trauma throughout their lives in the form of acute trauma, abusive relationships, a difficult childhood, or a sudden loss. If not addressed, trauma can be stored in the psyche and the body for life. Through Trauma Informed counseling, I help clients return to their wounds while maintaining a grounded and empowered space so they can heal. I help clients work through their Trauma Narrative so they can work to accept their life experiences and remove any shame or insecurity associated with those experiences.
